Erika Harrell, Executive Director of ElectED DC, released the following statement on the outcome of the June 4 Democratic Primary election:
“Now that the DC Democratic Primary election has concluded, I want to express my sincere gratitude to every voter who exercised their fundamental right at the ballot box. Thank you for making your voices heard on the issues that matter most to our communities.

“I also want to thank all the candidates who stepped up and engaged residents of Wards 7 and 8 throughout the campaign season. You shared your visions of inclusivity and hope, offering pathways for positive change and a better future for our children. Special congratulations to Wendell Felder and Trayon White, who will serve Ward 7 and Ward 8, respectively, over the next four years.

“ElectED DC worked tirelessly to engage voters through strategic digital outreach, door-to-door canvassing, candidate forums, and our innovative “Candidate Match” tool. Our innovative and culturally relevant political strategy connected us with thousands of Ward 7 and 8 voters. Our mission has always been to empower residents with the resources to make informed decisions about their children’s education and have their say at the polls.

“While the primary race has concluded, ElectED DC’s work is never done. We remain dedicated to fighting for fair, equitable, and high-quality education for all our children in every corner of our two wards. The issues driving this election – school funding, community safety, post-secondary readiness, and more – these priorities will continue to guide our advocacy in the months and years ahead.
“I look forward to collaborating with our newly elected leaders and continuing to amplify your voices. Our children are counting on us to build the better future they deserve.”
